Geophysics applies physics for
studying the Earth by measuring the geophysical fields and
interpreting them in terms of changes in physical properties.
Interested
Research of Geophysics Unit comprises exploration geophysics,
rock magnetism & paleomagnetism, seismology, engineering and
environmental geophysics. For more than 10 years, the unit has
been strongly supported by the International Program in the
Physical Sciences (IPPS), Uppsala University, Sweden. Academic
assistances have also been provided by Uppsala University and
Lulea University of Technology, Sweden. We could say that our
unit is a good potential geophysical research unit in Thailand,
which has good facilities for graduate study and research work.
Current research
activities are, for example; Subsurface geophysical mapping of
arsenic contaminated area, A study of the correlation between
the magnetic property and the distribution of heavy metals to
the bottom sediment, A study of the magnetic property and
fluorescent X-ray fingerprint of the bottom sediment, Boundary
delineation of high background radiation area, A study of the
source parameters of the seismic events, Gravity field study of
a mining district and Ancient kilns & archaeological sites
mapping with geophysical methods.
The Geophysical
Research Unit has a very good potential to do underground water
survey, site investigation, minerals prospecting, geological
mapping and geophysical consulting. |
